Single-Engine Turboprop
What does a single-engine turboprop cost to own?
Aircraft with a valid registration, counted live from the FAA file.
Turbine reliability, flight-level altitudes and 250 to 330 knots on one engine. The step where ownership stops being a hobby expense and becomes a budget line.
The single-engine turboprop is the most versatile shape in general aviation. A PC-12 will carry nine people and a cargo door full of freight out of an unimproved strip, then cruise at jet altitudes. A TBM does 330 knots on one engine. A Kodiak lands where a Caravan will not.
What changes at this level is not really the engine — a turbine is in many ways simpler to operate than a piston, with no mixture and no mags. What changes is everything around it: the altitudes, the systems, the weather you will now be flying in, and the professional standard of training that comes with the territory.
The money is in the operating, not the purchase
Hot-section inspections and overhauls are large, scheduled and predictable, which is why most owners run an hourly engine programme that converts them into a fixed cost per flight hour. Budgeting without one means holding very large, very lumpy provisions.
Add annual recurrent training at a simulator-equipped provider — several thousand dollars plus travel, every year, for as long as you own it. Insurers require it and the safety record at this level is largely why.

Fleet size is not trivia. It decides how fast you get a part, whether the shop at your field has seen one before, and how long the airplane sits when you sell.
