You can read the whole site without an account. We set no cookies for advertising, we run no advertising network, and we do not sell anything about you to anyone.

We count page views using Plausible, which is cookieless and collects no personal data — no device fingerprint, no cross-site profile, nothing that identifies you. That is why this site has no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.

We keep your email address, because it is how you sign in, and whatever you choose to put in your profile. Every profile field is optional, including your name.

We do not collect a street address, a phone number, or a date of birth, because nothing on this site needs them.

If you give a postal code it is used for one thing: working out which airfields are within a distance you set, so we can show you airplanes, partnerships and businesses near you. It is stored rounded to roughly a kilometre, it is never displayed, and it is never attached to anything you post.

Almost nothing. Another member cannot read your profile, your postal code, your costs, your flights, or which airplanes you have added. That is enforced by the database itself rather than by the website being careful.

Two deliberate exceptions. If you and another member hold the same airframe, you can each see the maintenance history logged against it — that is the point of a shared record. And if you post a partnership or list a business, what you wrote in it is public to signed-in members, along with the airfield you chose. Never your location.

This site holds a snapshot of the FAA aircraft registry, which is public record and includes every registered owner’s name and mailing address.

We do not publish those. The registry pages show the aircraft, the city and the state, and whether the registrant is an individual or a company — and stop there. Aircraft facts are useful to a buyer; a searchable directory of where people live is not, and those owners never chose to be in one.

If you opt in — and it is off unless you turn it on — what you log about running an airplane feeds the community figures that tell the next buyer what a type really costs.

Those figures are never computed from fewer than twenty aircraft, and that threshold lives in the database rather than in the page, so a number that should not exist cannot be displayed. You can turn the contribution off again at any time.

A listing is public, because a directory nobody can read is not a directory. What we show is what you put there.

We count that your listing was seen and that someone clicked through, as a daily total. We do not record who. There is no row in the database that could answer “which member looked at my page”, which is a decision about the schema rather than a promise about our conduct.

We send you email you asked for: confirming your address, resetting a password, a single welcome message, and anything you specifically sign up for. We do not sell or share your address.

Our email deliberately does not use click tracking or open-tracking pixels. Links in our messages go where they say they go.

Supabase hosts the database and handles sign-in. Railway runs the website. Resend delivers email. Plausible counts page views. Each of them sees only what it needs to do that job.

Ask and we will delete your account and everything attached to it. Write to privacy@buyinganairplane.com.

One thing to know first: maintenance history you logged against an airframe you share with someone else stays with the airframe, because it is as much the other owner’s record as yours. Everything that is only about you goes.
